The new LG V60 finally showed up on our doors today, alongside the phone's Dual Screen companion case which transforms the smartphone into a dual-screen device.
If the LG V60 were to be judged on its specs alone, it would come up shy when matched up against the new Samsung Galaxy S20 smartphones that hit the market a few weeks back. But when you factor in the device's unique accessory and its $800 price, the LG V60 is quite an appealing smartphone.
To be clean, the LG V60 costs $800 when you purchase it without the Dual Screen case. If the accessory is something you're really into, you can pick it up for $100 or $150 (depending on which service provider you buy it from). The phone itself features a 6.8-inch FHD+ display with a Snapdragon 865 SoC, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
Its triple camera setup on the back sports a 64MP main sensor, 13MP camera with an ultra-wide lens and a ToF depth sensor. The fact that it's missing a telephoto camera is a bit disappointing, but LG takes advantage of the main sensor's 64MP resolution to deliver digital zoom for photos and videos. The main sensor is also capable of recording 8K video at 28fps and there's also a 4K/60fps setting that both the rear cameras are able to shoot at. The front-facing camera has a 10MP sensor that can also shoot 4K/60fps.
To help power the Dual Screen case, the LG V60 comes with a massive 5,000 mAh battery that will definitely get you through two full days on a single charge. You also get wireless charging, a 3.5mm headphone jack and four microphones for better audio capture and noise cancellation.
When compared to Samsung's Galaxy S20 lineup, the LG V60 doesn't really match up perfectly with either the S20 or the S20+. LG has decided to focus on different features while delivering the latest chipset from Qualcomm, 5G connectivity and a unique dual-screen feature that really helps it stand out. We'll have to see if this phone checks the right boxes for consumers, but I think LG may have finally delivered a smartphone that may move the needle for them.
