Demand for Xiaomi’s Black Shark 3 shows that gaming phones might be here to stay

Gaming smartphones were initially viewed as something of a novelty. After all, most high-end flagships were just as capable of playing games, so why is there even a need for a dedicated gaming phone, right? Turns out that maybe companies like Razer were onto something because it seems that the trend is not only sticking, but it could be booming.

Xiaomi recently announced its latest gaming smartphone in the form of the Black Shark 3 and Black Shark 3 Pro, and it seems that the phones are off to a fantastic start. This is according to the registration numbers in which 5 million people have registered their interest in the handset.

Now, registrations does not equal to sales, so exactly how many out of that 5 million will actually buy the phone remains to be seen, but it is still a very good indication that the phone has generated a ton of interest. To Xiaomi's credit, the Black Shark 3 is one of the more unique gaming smartphones we've seen in a while.

For example, the Pro version of the smartphone comes with popup trigger buttons that will make gaming a lot more easier. It also features a magnetic charger which isn't quite as common amongst the majority of smartphones, and it is also priced rather competitively starting at $500 for the Black Shark 3, and $675 for the Pro version.
