Samsung has unveiled a new smartphone camera sensor which is poised to make even the just-released Samsung Galaxy Note a bit jealous. The Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX 1/1.33-inch sensor offers an astounding 108-megapixels of resolution. The default setting for the sensor will feature Samsung's Tetracell Pixel binning technology which will merge the light for 4 pixels into 1 to create 27-megapixel images. While the sensor is roughly 3/4 of an inch across, it will still feature incredibly small individual pixels.
Samsung's new sensor will also include advanced ISO which will kick in when lighting conditions are not ideal, reducing noise to deliver improved image quality. One the video front, the 108-megapixel sensor is also capable of recording 6K (6016 x 3384) video clips at 30 frames per second, something that's currently only possible on a select number of professional cameras.
The sensor itself was developed in collaboration with Xiaomi and will be making its public debut on an upcoming Xiaomi RedMi smartphone. With the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 already set for its retail debut later this month, we suspect the 2020 Galaxy S11 may be the first Samsung smartphone to hit the market with the company's new 108-megapixel sensor.
