The Razer Phone 2 launched a little under a year ago, and the chances of a successor don't look so great. Some rumors claim there won't be one, with job cuts at the company not helping, while others claim something is still coming. Whether it's coming or not, we might be seeing a new variant of the existing Razer Phone 2 soon.
A Razer Phone 2 has been sent to someone with a THX logo emblazoned on the back. While the current model has Dolby Atmos for the front facing speakers, THX certification is a bit different. Rather than a licensed technology, THX certifies products as producing sound just as the content was meant to be heard (in the right conditions of course).
This certification might bring slightly better audio performance to the two front facing speakers, though we don't expect miracles out of the same hardware. But more exciting is the appearance of a dual SIM slot and 512GB of internal storage, as well as an unlocked bootloader and widevine L1 support.
We don't know when the device will arrive, or if it's just a prototype that won't make it to production. But a refresh of a solid phone is never a bad thing.
