In recent years, Huawei has managed to create exciting new handset after one another. This is why we are pretty excited about the upcoming Huawei Mate 30 series, but it seems that while its hardware might be pretty exciting, it could fall flat on the software front.
This is because according to a report from Reuters, it appears that Huawei's upcoming Mate 30 series will not be shipping with Google Play services. Google confirmed to Reuters that the upcoming phones cannot be sold without licensed Google apps and services. This is due to the current ban that is in place that prohibits US companies from doing business with Huawei.
Apparently, it seems that despite the US government granting Huawei a temporary reprieve, it does not apply to new products such as the Mate 30 series. US companies will be allowed to apply for licenses that will grant them an exception, but we have heard that there have been over 100 applications since, but none have been approved.
That being said, Huawei apparently still plans to forge ahead and keep using Android, even if it means that their phones might not come with Google Play services and Google apps. The alternative would be Huawei's recently-announced HarmonyOS, but given that part of the phone's experience is its software and with Android being so widely-used, we're not sure if users are ready to give it up yet. Either way, we'll have to wait and see, but in the meantime, would the Huawei Mate 30 still be of interest to you if it did not come with Google Play services?
