How to turn off Smart Compose in Gmail

One of the new features that Google introduced to its Gmail email platform is Smart Compose. This is an AI-powered feature where it learns your typing habits and can make predictions on sentences you want to complete.

While it does make typing your emails faster, we get it that some of you might find it a bit disconcerting that with every email, Google is getting you to know you better. While you can easily ignore Smart Compose and can opt not to use it, here's how to you can just disable it completely.

Turn off Smart Compose on Android

1. Launch the Gmail app on your Android phone
2. Tap the three lines icon at the top left corner of the app
3. Scroll down and look for Settings
4. Select the Gmail account you want to edit
5. Uncheck the Smart Compose box

You can follow these steps again to turn it back on.

Turn off Smart Compose on your computer

1. Open Gmail in your web browser
2. Click the Settings icon
3. Select Settings
4. Under the General tab, scroll down and look for Smart Compose
5. Select Writing suggestions off

You can follow these steps again and select Writing suggestions on if you'd like to re-enable Smart Compose.

Note that disabling Smart Compose on your Android device does not disable it on your PC, and vice versa, so you'll need to make sure that each of your devices has the correct settings.

Another month has passed which means Netflix is gearing up to release quite a few new shows and movies to its catalog. As is always the case, the catalog has some great new titles which promise to deliver hours of entertainment. The highlights this month include Kevin Hart's new Irresponsible standup special, the Netflix Original Film Unicorn Store (starring Samuel L. Huawei P30 Pro vs P20 Pro: are the upgrades worth the price?

The launch of any new device is naturally alluring but triggers the voice inside your head to consider if it is really an upgrade over your current handset. The Huawei P20 Pro, as one of the best Android handsets released in 2018, set the bar for the mobile photography with the first device to breach the 100 rating on DxOMark, and the P30 Pro has just beaten it.

The P30 Pro is the next in line to the P series, but is it really worth considering when last year's Huawei P20 can be picked up for half the price? Each element of the P20 Pro that made it such a great device has been taken up a notch with this years P30 Pro, but is there enough of a difference to warrant shelling out for the P30 Pro?

Huawei P20 Pro vs P30 Pro – Display

While similarly sized, the P30 Pro offers a larger 6.47-inch curved OLED display with a taller 19.5:9 aspect ratio compared to the 6.1-inch OLED panel 18.7:9 aspect ratio of the P20 Pro. The difference in screen size is achieved by a smaller bottom bezel on the P30 Pro. The slightly larger display means the resolution on the P30 Pro jumps to 2340×1080 compared to the 2240×1080 on the P20 Pro.

Huawei P20 Pro vs P30 Pro – Processor

The P30 Pro processor is bumped up to the newer generation Kirin 980, which doubles the power available for AI and provides better power efficiency with its 7nm manufacturing process. Naturally, any bump in a generation of a processor will bring noticeable differences when it comes to processing power and power efficiency and it is the same here when considering the Kirin 970 on the P20 Pro over the Kirin 980 in the P30 Pro. The latest processor by Huawei suggests a 46-percent increase in graphics performance and a 75-percent increase in single-core performance.

While on the topic of performance, the P30 Pro also gets a boost to 8GB of RAM, up from the 6GB on the P20 Pro.

Huawei P20 Pro vs P30 Pro – Camera

The talking point of the P30 Pro is undoubtedly the camera performance, and that was a similar story with the P20 Pro, but Huawei has seriously stepped up its game. The P30 Pro features a 40-megapixel 27mm f/1.6 RYB sensor paired with a 20-megapixel 16mm f/2.2 ultra-wide lens, and an 8-megapixel 5x optical periscope 125mm f/3.4 lens with Huawei ToF sensor. This blows away the previously, still impressive, P20 Pro camera setup of a 40-megapixel 27mm f/1.8 lens with a 20-megapixel 16mm f/1.6 Monochrome sensor and 8-megapixel 3x optical 80mm f/2.4 lens. The addition of OIS and ditching the Monochrome sensor means the camera is the biggest upgrade to be gained from the P30 Pro.

The main upgrade over the P20 Pro is the zooming capabilities now available with the P30 Pro, together with the all-round improved lenses.

Huawei P20 Pro vs P30 Pro – Features

The new P30 Pro also gets a slightly larger 4200mAh battery when compared to the 4000mAh capacity in the P20 Pro. The boost of 200mAh, while a welcome addition, won't make a ton of difference in real-world use – both handsets can easily last a day of use, and then some. Charging on the Pro 30 is increased to 40W Supercharge with 15W wireless charge and reverse charging ability, compared to the 20W Supercharge on the P20 Pro.

There's also a bump in IP rating from IP67 on the P20 Pro to IP68 on the P30 Pro, which means you can use it in more situations and not worry about water damage, which may appeal to some users.

You'll also get an in-display fingerprint sensor with the P30 Pro as opposed to the capacitive rear-mounted fingerprint sensor on the P20 Pro. Both devices run Android Pie and feature the Huawei EMUI 9.1 software.

Huawei P20 Pro vs P30 Pro – Price

The P20 Pro launched at 899 euros, which is 100 euros cheaper than the P30 Pro launch price. As with any older device, the price of the P20 Pro has significantly dropped, which means you can pick one up for around 500 euros (around $620 USD). The P30 Pro starts at 999 euros and increases to 1249 euros for the 512GB model.

Huawei P20 Pro vs P30 Pro – Which should I buy?

As with any comparison, the decision comes down to what is important to you as a consumer. The P30 Pro is a big upgrade over the P20 Pro in terms of camera and premium features, but the lowered price of the P20 Pro makes it a cheaper outlay. If you already own the P20 Pro but a camera, especially one that zooms, isn't something that is massively important, then I wouldn't suggest upgrading to the P30 Pro. Similarly, if you're looking at buying a new device, the P20 Pro is a very good option at the lowered price. However, if a good camera is imperative to you, IP68 is important, and money is no object, then the Huawei P30 Pro is a no-brainer.

If the cost doesn't bother you, it's a great app but the biggest issue I had was that I was forced to create an account. The first time I opened the app I had the option to skip logging in, but that option was removed the next time I tied to log in.

Pixlr (previously Pixlr Express) is another robust photo editor. Use Pixlr to create unique collages and share them on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook. Pixlr's catalog of effects, overlays, and borders continues to grow to allow for greater photo editing options as you take snapshots of timeless moments in your life.

Samsung Galaxy S10+ versus OnePlus 6T: camera comparison

With all the excitement surrounding Samsung's 2019 flagship smartphone, we thought it would be interesting to see how the cameras on the Samsung Galaxy S10+ stack up against the cameras on the OnePlus 6T. OnePlus has typically trailed the competition in the camera department, but the company stepped up its camera game in 2018 with the OnePlus 6 and the newer OnePlus 6T.

OnePlus 6T & Galaxy S10+ camera specs

There's no denying that the Samsung Galaxy S10+ has the upper hand when it comes to camera specs. Samsung's phone features a total of five cameras.  The three-sensor camera setup on the back includes a 12MP main sensors paired with an f/1.5-2.4, 26mm lens and a second 12MP sensor with an f/2.4, 52mm (telephoto) lenses. The final 16MP sensor on the back of the phone as a 12mm, f/2.2 ultra-wide lens. The last two camera sensors are on the front of the phone: a 10 MP sensor with an f/1.9, 26mm lens setup and an 8MP, f/2.2, 22mm depth-sensor/lens setup. 

The OnePlus 6T has two cameras on the back and a single camera up front. The dual-sensor camera array on the back of the phone is comprised of a 16MP main sensor with an f/1.7 lens while the secondary 20MP sensor is there to capture depth information. The front-facing camera on the OnePlus 6T has a 16MP sensor as well, paired with an f/2.0 lens.

The video above includes side-by-side photo and video comparisons from both devices which will give you a good look at what you can expect from the two smartphones when capturing images and video clips in different scenarios. Watching the video will also give you a sample of the difference in audio quality between the two, something that is often overlooked.
