Leaked Nokia 9 PureView promo video shows all every main feature

A leaked promo video for the upcoming Nokia 9 PureView has hit the web, showing off its penta-camera, the phone's design and also revealing all of the phone's main specs.

Nokia 9 PureView Specs

While promo videos typically highlight a few main features of a phone, this one calls out all the important specs of the Nokia 9 PureView. The video shows that the device will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The front side of the phone is dominated by its 5.99-inch 2K HDR10-compliant display which features a small chin at the bottom and forehead at the top which houses the front-facing camera. The Mokia 9 PureView will be the first device in Nokia's lineup to sport an in-display fingerprint sensor, a technology which was first shown off a year ago at CES.

The phone's main attraction is its PureView penta-camera with ZEISS optics which will allow the phone to capture an image with all five sensors at the same time. The video shows that the phone's camera is capable of capturing 10x more light than a regular smartphone camera. The multi-camera setup will also capture depth information which can be used to change the focal point in the image in Google Photos after the fact.

On the software front, since the Nokia 9 PureView will be an Android One device, it'll be running stock Android Pie. While there's no guarantee that the phone will receive updates to newer versions of Android within a timely manner, it should receive all major updated for two years and regular security patches as well.

Nokia 9 PureView launch

The Nokia 9 PureView teaser video doesn't reveal when the phone will make its official debut, but recent news suggests that the phone will likely make its debut the last week of January. A late-January debut would allow the Nokia 9 PureView to go on sale in late Q1. This would allow the phone to hit the market at least a month before the first round of 2019 flagship smartphones which are set to make their debut at Mobile World Congress in February.

We're not yet sure if the penta-camera on the Nokia 9 PureView will offer a better camera experience, but it's certainly interesting. If HMD can get the pricing right, this phone should sell quite well, despite the fact that it's running last year's Snapdragon 845.
