One of the persistent rumors we've been hearing about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10 is that it could feature the use of an in-display fingerprint scanner. The company was expected to include those features in its phones in 2018, but those rumors obviously did not pan out. Fortunately, there's a good chance they might this year.
While we've seen this rumor before, this time the information is coming from a teardown of the Samsung Pay app by XDA Developers, where they found references made to the Galaxy S10 with a few obvious and explicit references made to an in-display fingerprint sensor. This would be used to help authenticate Samsung Pay payments.
So far we have heard rumors and seen the leaks where there could be at least three Galaxy S10 variants. It has also been suggested that the "budget" or "lite" version of the Galaxy S10 might not have this feature, and instead, the fingerprint scanner could be installed on the side of the phone.
At the moment it is unclear which tech Samsung could use for its in-display sensor. Last year it was said that they could be using an ultrasonic sensor versus the use of an optical sensor, and more recently there are some claims that certain screen protectors might not work with the sensor, such as the thicker ones.
Either way, all the official details should be revealed in less than a month's time at Samsung's Unpacked event which is currently scheduled for the 20th of February, 2019.
