Smart lighting systems from the likes of Philips and LIFX have been around for a while now, and while they're great at helping to set the mood, they do have some limitations to their design and that is mainly due to the fact that they are essentially just light bulbs. If you were shopping about for something a bit more artsy and creative, LaMetric might have something for you.
The company, best known for their TIME smart clock, has recently announced its SKY light panels which are individual mosaic-designed light panels. The the fact that each panel stands by its own means that you could combine various panels together to form shapes and designs of your own choosing. In a way these are similar to the Nanoleaf LED panels, but with some differences.
According to LaMetric, each panel will feature 32 color zones and will use double-sided sticky tape to adhere to surfaces for those who'd rather not drill holes into their walls. The SKY panels can be controlled by an accompanying app where users will be able to choose from a variety of moods and scenes, such as sunrise, sunset, rainbow, and more. Due to the fact that each panel has 32 color zones, you can even create a rather unique look with the clouds effect.
LaMetric has also based the SKY panels on its TIME smart clock, which for those unfamiliar is a clock that not only displays the time, but also other notifications and stats, like YouTube subscriber count, Instagram followers, and so on. The SKY panels will be able to do the same as well once you've set it up.
That being said, LaMetric has noted that its SKY panels are currently a prototype which means that they won't be ready for purchase just yet, but we'll be keeping an eye out for when it officially launches.
