Samsung reportedly copying the iPhone X’s Animoji for the Galaxy S9

We're only a few weeks away from the official unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. While Samsung is busy planning their big "Unpacked" event for February 25th in Barcelona — where they'll reveal everything there is to know about their new handsets — new details continue to leak online.

With the launch of the iPhone X, Android manufacturers are scrambling to copy some of its more well-known features in an effort to imitate some of its success. While Samsung wont be copying the phone's trademark notch, they could be looking to the phone's most popular software feature for inspiration: Animoji.

ETnews is reporting that Samsung will introduce their own take on Animoji with a feature they're calling "3D Emoji." It'll work much the same way as Apple's Animoji, using an improved 3D facial recognition sensor to mimic the user's facial expressions. You can expect a myriad of animal characters to choose from and after recording a 3D Emoji animation you'll be able to share them using various messaging apps or social networks.

The report goes on to confirm a targeted price point under that of the Galaxy Note 8 ($1,007) and a dual camera feature for the larger S9 Plus. Interestingly enough, both phones are said to feature a stereo-ish speaker set up, likely with the earpiece acting as a speaker when playing media (just like on the iPhone X and something that was lacking from last year's Galaxy S8).

We'll have to wait a few more weeks to learn about the phones, but it does appear Samsung has some nice little upgrades in store for the Galaxy S9. Let the hype beasting begin.
