Pixel 2 owners reporting overheating and decreased battery life after February update

Software updates are generally pretty great. While they can bring new features, bug fixes, and even patch up security holes that would-be hackers could take advantage of, other times new bugs can arise as a result. These unforeseen issues can be anything from a drop in battery life, slowdown, or even core features no longer functioning properly. Although we don't typically see these in smaller security patch updates, there's still the possibility for bugs to creep in.

For instance, over the weekend Pixel 2 owners were chiming into Reddit post where someone noticed a some weirdness with their phone after the most recent February security patch update. According to this users — and others just like him — he's noticed his Pixel 2 XL regularly getting warmer than usual and a sudden decrease in battery life.

It's worth noting that the results weren't unanimous, with some still praising the device's normally great battery life and not noticing anything negative as of yet. Personally, I have noticed a pretty steep drop off when it comes to battery life after the first official Android 8.1 update, with my screen-on-time being nowhere near where it was in Android 8.0. I tried factory resetting the phone "to start clean" but to no avail, things just aren't how they used to be.

I guess more than anything I'm curious to hear from you guys. Anyone else out there noticing decreased battery life and or more warmth than usual coming from their Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL? Was it Android 8.1 or a recent security patch that possible messed things up for you?
