Essential Phone receives 8.1 beta with February security patch and slow-scrolling jitter fix (maybe)

The Essential Phone will soon be available in a new color, the aqua and gold colored "Ocean Depths," starting tomorrow, February 15th but that's not the only new development from the house that Andy Rubin built.

A few weeks ago we learned that Essential — who was working on an Android 8.0 Oreo update for the PH-1 — would be skipping an official rollout of 8.0, starting work immediately on Android 8.1 via the manufacturer's beta program.

Today the company's first Android 8.1 beta build will be available and there's a few nice changes in store. Aside from the usual bug fixes and latest security patches, Essential claims they may (or may not) have fixed the "slow-scrolling jitter" bug affecting devices.

This was something we mentioned in an entire post highlighting the issue. Essential did say that the bug fix was in "beta," which means there's a possibility it wasn't squashed entirely? I guess you'll just have to see for yourself.

To download the update, you'll find it available soon on Essential Beta Builds page linked down below. Good luck and godspeed.
