Fire Emblems Heroes vastly outgrossed Super Mario Run in its first year

It's been over a year since Super Mario Run was released, and the game was expected to help kick off Nintendo's entrance into the mobile gaming platform. Since then, Nintendo has released games like Fire Emblem Heroes and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.

However, while Super Mario Run was expected to be the smash hit, it seems that wasn't actually the case. According to a new report, Fire Emblem Heroes grossed almost $300 million in its first year. This is five times the amount grossed by Super Mario Run, which came in at a disappointing $56 million over the same time.

Unfortunately for Nintendo, there is still more work to be done, as these numbers pale in comparison to the likes of Clash Royale and Pokemon Go. For a perspective, Clash Royale grossed $967 million in its first year, while Pokemon Go took over the world and grossed more than $1 billion in its first year.

It's important to remember that these numbers are not just for Android users, but also include the iOS App Store revenue stream. Nonetheless, Nintendo is hoping to keep the good times rolling, as the company recently announced that a mobile version of Mario Kart would be coming.

Of course, we'll have to wait quite awhile, as Nintendo confirmed that Mario Kart Tour would not be coming until sometime before the end of the current fiscal year, which wraps up in March 2019. On the bright side of things, at least we know at least one more Nintendo game is in the works, but I'm still crossing my fingers for a mobile Zelda game to hit the Play Store.
