2019 is the year where 5G networks are expected to go live in the US, but presumably it will face the same challenges as 4G where it will probably take some time before it covers the entire country. Then there is also the issue of compatible smartphones, where at the moment we can probably count with one hand the number of 5G smartphones available in the market right now.
If you don't have 5G but still want to take advantage of the promised speeds, then you might be interested to learn that Verizon has since launched its first 5G hotspot device. This comes in the form of the Inseego 5G MiFi M1000. It looks pretty much like your typical hotspot device, where it will also come with a display that will provide additional information to the user.
This includes how many guests are connected to it, the signal strength, the battery life of the hotspot, how much data is left, and also how many days till your next billing cycle. It sounds like it could be incredibly useful, but at the same time, it will not come cheap. Verizon will be selling the hotspot for a whopping $649.99, and that's not taking into account the data plan. This is as expensive as buying a new smartphone.
Thankfully, there will be an installment plan available where customers can pay it back over a 24-month period at $27.08 a month. As for the data plan itself, it will only be available if you have an unlimited data plan which costs $90 a month, but you will be capped at 50GB of 5G data.
