Huawei Mate X spotted in the wild, company still cagey about a release date

Earlier this year alongside the Samsung Galaxy Fold, Huawei unveiled their own foldable smartphone in the form of the Huawei Mate X. For a while, it seemed like Huawei could have gotten the jump on Samsung by releasing the phone before them, following the build issues that Samsung ran into with the Galaxy Fold.

That was not the case as Huawei later announced that they too would be delaying the launch of their phone. So, now that Samsung has confirmed that their foldable phone will be released in September, does Huawei have an answer? Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case.

The Chinese media had a recent run in with the company's CEO, Richard Yu, where he was spotted using the phone in real-life. When asked when the phone would be released, Yu said that "it will have to wait". It was previously reported that the Mate X could be launching in September as well, but to date the company has yet to provide any specifics.

In the meantime, we have to say that the Mate X looks pretty good in real life. The dimensions and aspect ratio of the phone certain comes across rather tablet-like when folded, versus the Galaxy Fold which has a bit of an odd shape to it. In any case, we'll just have to wait and see.
