Apparently, HTC still wants to be in the smartphone game. After scrapping plans to release a flagship smartphone in the first half of 2019 in favor of "something else" scheduled for the second half of the year, the company has just revealed that it plans to unveil a new device on June 11th. The smartphone in question is likely the HTC U19e, a mid-range smartphone which looks like it could take on the Google Pixel 3a.
Recent leaks claim that the HTC U19e will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 with 6GB of RAM, a 6-inch full HD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, 16MP + 8MP dual-camera setup on the back, dual front-facing 8MP + 5MP cameras and a 3,930mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 4.
A mid-range smartphone from HTC may sound a bit depressing at this point, but if HTC delivery a well-built handset and manages to keep the price around the $350-$400 range, the HTC U19e may actually be an appealing device. Last year's HTC U12+ featured an amazing camera which delivered spectacular images. There's no reason why the HTC U19e couldn't go head-to-head with the Pixel 3a, especially if HTC manages to incorporate wide-angle or telephoto lenses on the front and back of the phone.
Do you think HTC still has a place in the smartphone space or should the company take a step back and focus all of its efforts on the HTC Vive?
