Google Pixel 4 could change the way we interact with our phones

Our smartphones have gotten kind of boring. Sure, they're even more powerful than ever, and they take amazing photos, but for the most part, it just feels like more of the same. Google's upcoming Pixel 4, on the other hand, could prove to be a game changer if the latest rumors are to be believed.

According to the rumors, it has been suggested that Google's radar chip, Project Soli, could finally make its debut in the Pixel 4 smartphone. In case you're learning about Project Soli for the first time, this is a technology that Google debuted several years ago. It is based on radar hardware and when used, it can detect things like subtle hand movements, which in turn opens up new possibilities in terms of how users engage with their devices.

To be fair, these kind of gestures aren't exactly new. Years ago, we saw Sony debut similar-ish tech where users could interact with their devices without necessarily touching it. This year, LG also did something similar with the LG G8 where they introduced Air Gestures.

We expect that Project Soli will be capable of offering similar features, except maybe taken to the next level. At this point in time, it's anyone's guess as to how exactly Google could integrate the tech into the Pixel 4, so we'll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, the video demonstration above of Google showing off Project Soli could clue us in.
