HTC released not one, but two new smartphones today

Today, HTC unveiled two new phones, the HTC U19e and the HTC    Desire Desire 19+. While HTC has traditionally released dozens of smartphones within a calendar year, the company's financial woes have resulted in a much slower release cycle. Technically, these two phones are the first new devices in HTC's consumer smartphone lineup for the year.

Of the two, the HTC U19e is the more intriguing smartphone, launching in Extraordinary Purple which features a transparent section on the back panel and Modest Green. With its Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC and 6.0-inch OLED panel, the U19e is definitely a mid-range smartphone, but it's well-positioned to take on the Pixel 3a from Google which is by far the most exciting mid0range smartphone of 2019.

Other specifications of the HTC U19e include 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a generous 3,930mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0 support, a 12MP main camera which is paired with an f/.18 lens, a secondary 20MP camera with a 2x telephoto f.2.6 lens and a 24MP selfie camera up from with an f/2.0 lens. HTC has also thrown in a 2MP Iris scanner for a more secure biometric unlocking system, but there's also a traditional fingerprint scanner on the back.

The HTC U19e will go on sale tomorrow in Taiwan for NT$ 14,900 which roughly converts to $475 USD.

As for the HTC Desire 19+, you're looking at a budget device with some decent specs. Up front, you get a 6.2-inch HD+ display with a water-drop notch in the middle for its 16MP selfie camera. Powering the phone is a MediaTek Helio P35 processor which is coupled with 4/6GB of RAM, 64/128GB of storage, an 8MP (main), 5MP (depth) and 16MP (ultra-wide) triple-rear camera system on the back, a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and 3,850mAh battery.

The base model of the HTC Desire 19+ with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage will be priced at NT$ 9,990 ($318 USD) while the 6GB model with 128GB of storage will sell for NT$ 10,990 ($350 USD). HTC isn't quite ready for the Desire 19+ to hit store shelves yet, but it will be made available starting in early July.

As of right now, HTC has not announced launch details for other markets, but we should see the HTC Desire 19+ and HTC U19e make an appearance in other Asian and European markets sometime this summer.
