Despite trade ban, Huawei promises Android Q upgrades for nearly 20 smartphones

When news first broke that Google had revoked Huawei's Android license, Android upgrades for Huawei devices appeared to be off the table. Fortunately, we have good news for those who currently own some of the newer Huawei smartphones: the company is "confident" that it will be able to update nearly 20 of its smartphone to Android Q.

Huawei is currently participating in the Android Q beta program with the Mate 20 Pro, but most of Huawei's 2019 and 2018 lineup could see the Android Q update.

"Our most popular current devices, including the P30 series, will be able to access Android Q. In fact, we have already launched a beta developer programme for Android Q which is running right now on our Mate 20 Pro device."

While this is very good news, it's still unclear what the fate of Huawei's future handsets will be. The upcoming Huawei Mate X will likely be upgraded to Android Q as well since the phone was officially unveiled before the trade ban was instated. Huawei's contingency plan appears to be the implementation of it's "Plan B" operating system which could roll out within the next 12 months.

Since there is a lot of confusion regarding the trade ban and the impact it will have on Huawei smartphones, the company has put up a website which answers some of the questions that you might have. The only real piece of helpful information on the website is the list of devices that Huawei has "submitted to upgrade to Android Q."
