Camera OTA update brings night mode to the Samsung Galaxy S10

The night mode on a Pixel device is the envy of the Android world, with many OEM's attempting to replicate the functionality of being able to shoot a decent image in low-light conditions.

Now its Samsung's turn with a dedicated OTA aimed squarely at competing with Google's Night Sight and providing a dedicated night mode on the Galaxy S10 and S10+. Rumors previously hinted that Samsung would be bringing such a mode to its flagship devices in late April or early May and the rumor was right on the money with an OTA now doing the rounds. The patch that brings the night mode to the camera app also includes the April 2019 security patch.

For owners of the S10 thoroughly confused, since the S10 comes with a Bright Night feature already, it seems Samsung has broken this functionality out to allow the user to control when to take low-light, rather than rely on the AI adjusting the settings when it seems fit. I've had mixed results with Bright Night kicking in when it would seem suitable for a night mode to adjust the shutter speed and it seems to only trigger when its way to dark to be beneficial.

The new update is live in Switzerland right now as Samsung does its typical staged rollout thing. It should eventually rollout to a device near you shortly, but you can manually force a check by heading into settings and the software update menu.
