The retail box for the Galaxy S9 supposedly leaks, sharing key specs

Now that we know that the Galaxy S9 will be unveiled at MWC 2018, this means its crunch time for those of us who thrive off of leaks. The device has seen a few leaks and renders, including a full CAD render video that was shared back in December, revealing a similar design to the Galaxy S8.

However, while we have seen renders of what the Galaxy S9 will look like, little has been shared regarding what will be under the hood for Samsung's latest flagship. Luckily, a new image has surfaced which shows off the back of the retail packaging for the Galaxy S9, sharing some of the specs for the device.

The box reveals that the device will have a 5.8-inch Infinity Display, with the same 18.5:9 aspect ratio that was introduced with the Galaxy S8 lineup. The packaging doesn't share the processor that will be powering this device, but we know that the Exynos 9810 will be at the helm for international variants, while the Snapdragon 845 SoC will power the US variant.

It seems that Samsung isn't ready to make the jump to 6GB as the starting point for RAM in the Galaxy S9, as the packaging confirms that there will be 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. As has been the case for quite some time, we are expecting for Samsung to include a microSD card slot for storage expansion.

Moving down the list, we see that the device will have a "Super Speed Dual Pixel 12MP" sensor, confirming that the smaller Galaxy S9 will not make the move to a dual-camera setup. This camera is also listed as being capable of "Super Slow-mo", likely meaning that the device can shoot in up to 60fps, while the front-facing camera will feature an 8MP sensor.

Samsung will be including AKG-tuned stereo speakers, which hopefully will be improved when compared to last year's model. Meanwhile, Samsung will be packaging the same AKG-tuned headphones which were introduced last year, but then were sold for $99 separately.

Finally, the packaging shares that the Galaxy S9 will feature IP68 water and dust resistance, and will also feature an iris scanner. The iris scanner will be a big talking point, especially if Samsung improved the technology as it looks to compete with Apple's FaceID.

I don't know about you, but I'm actually looking forward to the release of the Galaxy S9 Plus, as that will likely be the "true flagship" device until the Galaxy Note 8 comes out. Let us know what you think in the comments below.
