The Honor 8 was one of the most underrated Android devices of 2016. Launching only a short 18 months ago, the phone originally launched with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, after which it received an update to Android 7.0 Nougat. With Oreo now readily available, Honor chimed in with their plans to update the Honor 8 to Android 8.0 and EMUI 8.0 in coming months. So what's the issue?
Well, apparently Honor India explicitly said that the Honor 8 wouldn't be updated to Oreo in a now deleted tweet, so there's somewhat conflicting information there. The guys at Android Police reached out to Honor to clarify, and they were given this response:
To ensure Honor 8 users also benefit from the latest user experience upgrades, new functions of EMUI 8.0 will be ported to the Honor 8. Further update details will be released within one week. Please stay tuned and we thank you for your support and interest in Honor.
Okay, now that statement is raising more questions than it's answering. It's tough to tell what they mean, but it sounds as if only some features from EMUI 8.0 will make its way to the Honor 8. They didn't specifically say that but they did mention more details will be released in one week. Before you grab the pitchforks, let's try to wait until then before there's a call to action.
