Samsung Galaxy Z Flip confirmed in ad shown during the Oscars

Tomorrow, Samsung will be hosting their Galaxy Unpacked event. The event is expected to see Samsung announce their Galaxy S20 smartphones, but if the rumors are to be believed, the event will also most likely see the company announce their next foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Flip.

Of course, none of this can be confirmed right now, or can it?

During an ad shown off at the Oscars, it seems that Samsung has more or less confirmed the existence of the upcoming smartphone. We've seen leaked renders of the phone in the past, and this ad pretty much confirms what we know about it so far. What's interesting about the ad is that it also seems to show off one feature we might not have known about.

In the ad, it shows that when the phone is closed, users can still receive a notification that they are getting a call thanks to a small hidden display next to the cameras. It is unclear if users can interact with this display or if it is purely for display purposes.

In case you're unfamiliar with the Galaxy Z Flip, this will be Samsung's second attempt at a foldable smartphone. It will not be the direct successor to the Galaxy Fold (that successor is still expected to arrive later this year), but will represent a potentially new lineup. It will sport a clamshell design similar to the Motorola Razr, but we expect that Samsung will probably put their own spin on it.

Either way, we should have more details tomorrow, so be sure to check back with us then for more updates.
