Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo are looking to create an alternative to Google’s Play Store

The open nature of Android is great in the sense that it allows developers to create apps that might not necessarily be approved by Google, but at the same time allowing users to install them anyway. Unfortunately for Google, all of this could soon be coming to bite them in the behind.

In a recent report from Reuters, it has been suggested that some of China's largest smartphone makers, are teaming up and creating an alternative to the Google Play Store. This includes the likes of Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo, who are hoping that this move will challenge Google's dominance.

Dubbed as the Global Developer Service Alliance, this platform is said to allow developers to better market their apps, services, music, and movies in overseas markets. We also imagine that it will help divert some revenue from the app market away from Google and towards those companies.

We have heard in the past that some developers aren't too thrilled at the idea of Google taking a cut from app and in-app purchases, and if these companies can create an app store that will take a smaller cut, we imagine that many developers will be more than happy to release their apps there as well.

Plus, with tensions between the US and China, we're sure that Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo are probably looking for alternative services should they ever find themselves in the position that Huawei is currently in.
