Android 11 will most likely not be coming to the original Pixel phones

The problem with software updates is that they can be hardware dependent, meaning that the more new features that are added, there are certain older or lower-end devices that might not be able to support it. Unfortunately for original Pixel and Pixel XL owners, it looks like you might want to consider upgrading.

This is because according to a Google support document, it appears that both the Pixel and Pixel XL devices will not be getting the Android 11 update. Both phones are listed as no longer being guaranteed Android version updates after October 2018. Google had previously promised at least two years of Android updates and three years of security updates.

In fact, Google actually surprised owners last year when Android 10 was released for the OG Pixel phones, but with security updates no longer arriving after 2019, it seems more than likely that Android 11 will not be coming to the phone.

While it is a bit disappointing, we can't say that we are too surprised by this. After all, unlike iOS devices which are supported for years on end, Android handsets typically see 2-3 version updates at most. Plus, with how old the original Pixels are, we suppose if you're still hanging onto them, it is due for an upgrade anyway.
