MWC 2020 has been officially cancelled

MWC 2020 is one of the biggest trade shows of the year, where if you're a fan of mobile technology, this is the event to keep an eye out for as we are usually treated to new smartphones, tablets, and basically advancement in the mobile industry. Unfortunately, it seems like we'll have to wait and hear about it somewhere else.

This is because it has been confirmed that MWC 2020 has been cancelled over concerns about the coronavirus outbreak. This is according to John Hoffman, the CEO of GSMA who organizes the event every year. According to Hoffman's statement:

"With due regard to the safe and healthy environment in Barcelona and the host country today, the GSMA has cancelled MWC Barcelona 2020 because the global concern regarding the coronavirus outbreak, travel concern and other circumstances, make it impossible for the GSMA to hold the event. The Host City Parties respect and understand this decision. The GSMA and the Host City Parties will continue to be working in unison and supporting each other for MWC Barcelona 2021 and future editions. Our sympathies at this time are with those affected in China, and all around the world."

Previously it was reported that the GSMA would be holding a meeting this Friday to discuss the fate of the event. It looks like the decision has since been moved up as MWC 2020 is officially no more. This doesn't mean that we won't be getting new phones, but rather any announcements companies planned to make at the event will now be released separately.
