Coronavirus forces TCL to cancel its MWC press conference

TCL has just announced that it's MWC press conference, originally scheduled for February 22, has been canceled due to the novel coronavirus outbreak. While we have seen several smartphone manufacturers pull out of Mobile World Congress completely, TCL is still planning to attend the show and will be holding pre-briefings and is currently still planning to show off its products at its booth at the First Grab Via.

While we are no longer holding a press conference, no other activities will be impacted. This includes our scheduled pre-briefings at our private offsite showroom, as well as our booth at the Fira Gran Via, all of which will continue as originally scheduled.

LG and ZTE have announced that they are no longer planning to attend MWC in an effort to limit exposure to their employees.

GSMA, the organization which puts on Mobile World Congress each year, announced last night that it is implementing several restrictions to limit the exposure of attendees by not allowing anyone to attend from the Hubei province of China (the epicenter of the coronavirus) and will also be requiring attendees from China to prove that they have been outside of the country for 14 days before coming to the show. In addition to these measures, the GSMA will also be implementing temperature screenings during the event to limit access to those who may not be in perfect health.

  • All travelers from the Hubai province will not be permitted access to the event*
  • All travelers who have been in China will need to demonstrate proof they have been outside of China 14 days prior to the event (passport stamp, health certificate)
  • Temperaturescreening will be implemented
  • Attendees will need to self-certify they have not been in contact with anyone infected.
