Mysterious Fossil hybrid smartwatch could be running WearOS

Details of a mysterious Fossil hybrid have emerged, revealing the evolution of the company's smartwatch offerings. The watch, currently known as "Fossil Collider Hybrid Smartwatch HR," appears to be a mix between a true smartwatch and the hybrid watches Fossil has been making for years. The device features an e-ink or e-paper display below traditional watch dials, showing complications for steps, weather, heart rate, and the date. If the screen looks familiar, that's because the complications on the display closely match those found in WearOS. The screen also appears to show notifications from text messages which would be a huge step up over the limited notification functionality of Fossil's current hybrid watches.

According to 9to5Google, the new hybrid smartwatch from Fossil is likely running the "Diana" technology platform which Google acquired from Fossil earlier this year. It's still unclear if the platform is its own operating system or if the technology has been merged with WearOS.

As for the new Fossil hybrid smartwatches, multiple listings have shown up for different styles and sizes which should appeal to both men and women. The hybrid watches are expected to retail for $225 (likely the starting price) and feature compatibility with Android and iOS with 2-week battery life — a massive improvement over the 1-2 days more WearOS smartwatches offer.

We still don't know when the "Fossil Collider Hybrid Smartwatch HR," will be making its retail debut, but there's a good chance it'll be showing up in stores for the holiday shopping season.
