US Commerce Department grants yet another 3 month reprieve to Huawei

Huawei's ban in the US has been active for most of 2019 and things aren't looking any better. However, every three months the US Commerce Department gives the company a 90 day reprieve that allows them to continue doing business with US companies in a limited fashion.

This is the case once again as the company has received yet another 90 day reprieve, changing nothing about its situation in the US. In fact, a Huawei spokesperson had this to say:

"Extending the Temporary General License won't have a substantial impact on Huawei's business either way. This decision does not change the fact that Huawei continues to be treated unfairly."

However, the bigger news is that the Commerce Department is now issuing licenses that will allow certain companies to have less restricted trade with Huawei. Such a license could allow Huawei to use Google Play Services again. We do not know whether Google has gotten a license, though some companies who have are semiconductor companies, but certain activities with certain companies are now being approved.

We don't see a resolution between the US and Huawei in sight, so this is a small step in the right direction but ultimately one that won't have a substantial effect on the market.
