On the smartphone front, Sony has been rather quiet as they have actually been slowly pulling out of various markets. It is a pity as some of Sony's earlier Xperia handsets were actually pretty decent, but at the same time, it's hard to compete against Chinese OEMs who have been flooding the market with cheap and value-for-money phones.
That being said, a report from Japanese website Android Next, they claim that according to Sony's roadmap for 2020, the company could be planning a barrage of new smartphones. This includes as many as four flagship Xperia handsets along with three mid-ranged devices.
Despite them being mid-rangers, we shouldn't be so quick to discount them just yet. This is because the report claims that they will be allegedly using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 735 chipset and will also offer 5G connectivity, bringing 5G to non-flagship phones and making it more accessible to the masses.
The flagships are also rumored to support 5G and all four of them are also expected to be powered by Qualcomm's next-gen Snapdragon, which is believed to be the Snapdragon 865. Take this report with a grain of salt for now, but could it mean that the potential onslaught of phones from Sony in 2020 could be an indication that the company is planning to stage a comeback?
We guess we'll have to wait and see, but with CES and MWC 2020 taking place in the next few months, we might not have to wait too long to find out.
