Pixel 4 vs OnePlus 7 Pro camera comparison: bigger isn’t always better

We've put together another Pixel 4 camera comparison, pitting the new smartphone against the award-winning OnePlus 7 Pro. While both devices are 2019 flagship smartphones, their camera hardware is pretty different.

The camera setup on the OnePlus 7 Pro consists of four cameras, three of which are located on the back of the phone. OnePlus has equipped the device with a 48MP main sensor from Sony which features an f/1.6 lens with laser autofocus and optical image stabilization. The second camera is comprised of an 8MP sensor with an f/2.4, 78mm (3x telephotos) lens with OIS and then there's the final ultrawide camera with a 16MP sensor and 13mm lens. The OnePlus 7 Pro also has a 16MP pop-up selfie camera with an f/2.0 lens. When it comes to video capture, the main and telephoto cameras on the back are capable of shooting up to 4K@60 fps while the front-facing camera is able to capture video at1080p@30 fps.

The Pixel 4's camera setup is a bit less complicated with only a 12.2MP main camera with an f/1.7 lens and a second 16MP sensor which features an f/2.4, 45mm (2x zoom) lens. Both sensors feature optical image stabilization and can capture 4K video at 30 fps. The front-facing 8MP camera sports an f/2.0, 22mm lens and is limited to 1080p@30 fps video capture just like the OnePlus 7 Pro.

Pixel 4 review: reclaiming the crown

While the OnePlus 7 Pro definitely has the advantage when it comes to hardware, Google's Pixel phone managed to capture better images in nearly all scenarios. The difference between the cameras is especially noticeable in low light situations, resulting in blurry images from the OnePlus 7 Pro due to its longer exposure times. That being said, the 7 Pro is a lot more versatile than the Pixel 4 thanks to its ultra-wide camera which manages to capture images that the Pixel 4 simply can't match.
