What to expect from the OnePlus 8/8 Pro announcement

The OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are being announced in just a few days, and we seem to know almost everything there is to know about the devices. Whether you're happy to know what's in store or disappointed at the lack of surprises from most phone unveilings, the OnePlus 8 series of devices are looking to be powerhouses.

According to the numerous leaks and rumors, the OnePlus 8 is going to feature a 6.55-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 865 processor with 5G support, a choice of 8GB and 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM, a choice of 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage, and a 4,300 mAh battery. The camera array should be a 48MP IMX586 main sensor, 16MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro.

The OnePlus 8 Pro shares the same processor and storage but kicks it up a notch in a few other places. The device gets a 6.78-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate, LPDDR5 RAM, a bigger 4,510 mAh battery with wireless charging, a better 48MP IMX689 main sensor, a 48MP IMX586 ultrawide, an 8MP 3x hybrid zoom lens, and a 5MP color sensor.

The pricing is the interesting thing. We don't know the exact pricing for the US, but rumors claim that this the pricing for Europe:

  • OnePlus 8 (8GB/128GB): €719 – €729
  • OnePlus 8 (12GB/256GB): €819 – €829
  • OnePlus 8 Pro (8GB/128GB): €919 – €929
  • OnePlus 8 Pro (12GB/256GB): €1,009 – €1,019

While a direct conversion to USD won't be perfectly accurate, as US models are often a bit cheaper, we can expect the 8 and 8 Pro to be more expensive than the previous OnePlus 7T. A budget phone this is not.

We can't wait to see the official announcement and get concrete specs. Check back in on April 14th!
