It's been years since Motorola has delivered a flagship smartphone, but the company is finally back in the game with the new Motorola Edge+, hoping to give Samsung, OnePlus, LG and others a run for their money.
In looking at the specs, Motorola Edge+ has what it takes to take on the competition. The phone sports a Snapdragon 865 chipset from Qualcomm with mmWave and sub-6 5G support and comes with12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage. It also features a 6.7inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support, but that display is also the reason for the phone's name. Motorola's given it a 90-degree curved edge which allows it to wrap around the sides of the phone, making a dramatic design statement. Motorola has included decent palm rejection software, allows you to turn the edges off completely, or customize them with trigger buttons in games like Call of Duty Mobile.
To keep the phone's display lit up as long as possible, the device includes a 5,000mAh battery, 18W fast charging, 15W wireless charging and 5W wireless power share to share your smartwatch, earbuds, or even another phone. The Motorola Edge+ doesn't come with an official IP rating but it is splash-proof which means you should be just fine if you get caught in the rain or if you accidentally spill a drink on the phone.
In an effort to outperform the competition, Motorola has included a 3.5mm headphone jack (it's been a while since we've seen a flagship smartphone with one) and dual stereo speakers tuned by Waves. For its cameras, the phone is equipped with the same 108MP sensor that Samsung is using on the Galaxy S20 Ultra, an 8MP 3zx telephoto camera, 16MP ultrawide with a built-in macro mode and 25 MP front-facing camera. While the phone can't match Samsung's 8K video capture, Motorola is delivering 6K video from the main sensor.
Motorola Edge+ Pricing & Availability
In the US, the Motorola Edge+ will be available exclusively from Verizon for $999 starting on May 14. In Canada, the phone will be available from Bell, Rogers, TELUS and Freedom Mobile. Motorola will be making the Edge+ available across Europe and other countries across the globe in May and eventually India and Latin America later in the year.
