The launch of the Pixel 4a may be closer than previously expected. A new leak has revealed two photos of the Pixel 4a's retail boxes. The images themselves don't reveal anything new regarding the specifications of the Pixel 4a, but they do suggest that Google may soon be ready to officially unveil the new mid-range smartphone.
Last year's Pixel 3a made its debut at Google I/O 2019, but the developer conference has been canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The original rumors hinted at another Google I/O launch for this new Pixel device. But based on everything we already know about the phone, there's a good chance that Google may push up the retail debut of the device just a little since there's no longer a physical event to tie it to.
The only issue that Google may run up against by pushing the phone out a few weeks early is getting enough units of the Pixel 4a built and distributed to its retail partners for the launch. The Pixel 4a isn't expected to be a huge seller, but last year's Pixel 3a did help Google achieve a 2x year-over-year sales increase for its Pixel lineup.
