T-Mobile’s already delivering more 5G coverage to its Sprint customers

No matter what side you fall on regarding the T-Mobile/Sprint merger, the new company is already delivering benefits to its Sprint customers by allowing them to jump onto T-Mobile's 5G network is they own on of Samsung new Galaxy S20 devices which were released earlier this year. Spring customers who own a compatible device will also be able to roam on T-Mobile LTE which has a much larger footprint that the Sprint network currently has.

T-Mobile is already hard at work to verge the two networks in order to offer much better 5G service to all of its customers. Right now, T-Mobile is working on merging Sprint's 2.5 GHz spectrum with its own in Philadelphia and will be doing the same in New York next. While its sub-6 network isn't much faster than 4G, T-Mobile is already getting 600 Mbps on its mid-band 2.5 GHz spectrum and is promising speeds up to eight times faster than its current LTE deployment within the next year or two.

The T-Mobile/Sprint merger may have reduced competition within the US market, but if T-Mobile continues at its current pace, its 5G network will be able to easily rival what AT&T and Verizon have planned. Unfortunately, the promises we've been fed regarding 5G are still years away from the reality we currently live with.
