A day after the new OnePlus 8 was unveiled, Honor has pulled back the curtain to show off the new Honor 30 Pro+. The phone's features slot it right between the OnePlus 8 and the 9 Pro – with a pricepoint to match.
The main highlight of the phone is its 6.57-inch AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and 180Hz touch sampling. It's also the first device in Honor's lineup with a curved panel, a feature that Huawei has only bestowed on its most premium devices in the past.
To compete with the Snapdragon 865 chipset that the new OnePlus phones offer, the Honor 30Pro+ is equipped with the latest Kirin 990 chipset which has 5G integration built right in. Users will be given 256GB of storage on the base model with 8GB of RAM, but an upgraded variant with 12GB of RAM is also available.
For its camera setup, the Honor 30 Pro+ features Sony's latest 50MP IMX700 sensor for its main camera, an 8MP periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom and a 16MP ultrawide camera with a 17mm field of view. The ultrawide camera also doubles as a macro camera. For video capture, the rear cameras top out at 4K/60fps.
The Honor 30 Pro+ features two selfie cameras: a 32MP main camera and an 8MP ultrawide which will allow you to fit more friends or more of the scenery into your shots.
For its battery, the phone uses a 4,000mAh cell with 40W wired charging and 27W wireless charging. As for the phone's color options, the Honor 30 Pro+ will be available in Black, Green, and Silver with the Honor name plastered the frosted letters on the back of the phone, right below the camera bump. It's a bit offputting at first, but fans of the Honor brand will likely love the extra flair it adds to the phone.
The Horon 30 Pro+ is already available for pre-order and will set you back CNY4,999 ($707.59 USD) for the 8GB model or CNY5,499 ($778.37 USD) for the 12GB model with the shipping date set for April 21.
As we already mentioned, the Honor 30 Pro+ has positioned itself as a viable alternative tot he new OnePlus 8 smartphones. Based on what we've seen from Honor in the past, this phone should outperform the OnePlus 8 devices when it comes to camera quality, but since the phone is missing the Google Play Store, it may not be quite as appealing to potential customers who have relied on Google's software on their phones for years.
