LG's V-series smartphones are typically launched in the later part of the year, but for some reason, LG has decided to announce two of its flagship smartphones at the start of the year: the LG G8 and also the LG V50, with the latter being the company's take on 5G smartphones and what appears to be their answer to the foldable phone craze we're seeing.
For those who own the LG V40, upgrading your phone a year later might not seem like the best way to spend your money, but there are several notable differences between the LG V40 and LG V50 that might be worth checking out. For starters, there will be the inclusion of 5G, a larger 4,000mAh battery (to potentially offset the battery drain from 5G), and also the use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset.
There will also be the use of a new cooling system that LG claims will help to deal with the more powerful processor. LG has also announced the Dual Screen accessory, which as the name implies will add a second screen to the handset. While this isn't a foldable phone like we've seen from the likes of Samsung or Huawei, it does add an extra screen which we suppose kind of achieves a similar effect, albeit with a very obvious hinge in the middle.
The upside is that it is detachable so if you'd rather not carry around such a bulky device, there is the option. Other features and specs of the phone include a 6.4-inch QHD+ OLED FullVision Display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio, DTS:X audio technology, a triple camera setup on the back, dual front-facing shooters, stereo speakers, along with facial recognition and fingerprint reading technology.
The LG V50 is expected to be available via Sprint and Verizon, where it will also be Sprint's first 5G smartphone. Sprint has yet to confirm when the phone will be available, but Verizon expects to start selling it this summer.
