At some point in time, display resolution on our smartphones no longer matters due to the size of our screens, and where it starts feeling more like a technical feat and a way to impress consumers rather than actually being useful. It might be one of the reasons why 4K displays on smartphones hasn't really caught on yet.
Sony, on the other hand, seems to be pushing for it. This is according to renowned leakster Evan Blass who recently shared an image of the upcoming Sony Xperia 1, which is expected to be the company's next flagship handset, and also a follow-up tweet where he said that the phone would be sporting a 4K HDR OLED screen.

We should point out that this is not the first time that Sony has brought 4K displays to smartphones. Several years ago Sony launched the Xperia Z5 Premium which came with a 4K display, although it was later discovered that it was not "true" 4K as it switched back and forth between resolutions depending on the situation.
Details about the Sony Xperia 1 are a bit scarce at the moment, but the leaked render does hint at a triple camera setup on the back, and with Sony's approach to the fingerprint sensor, it will most likely end up on its side (unless Sony surprises us with an in-display sensor). The Xperia 1 also won't be the only phone Sony will be announcing.
Earlier leaks have shown that there could be at least two other Xperia handsets in the form of the Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus, all of which should be made official come MWC 2019 which kicks off next week.
