The Galaxy Fold didn't get off to the start Samsung would have hoped. Early review units saw a number of failures that resulted in Samsung issuing a recall and eventual delay of the device. While not surprising and entirely encouraged to allow Samsung to focus on fixing the failed parts before shipping to consumers, it was expected the device wouldn't experience any kind of delay.
However, Samsung is now sending emails to users that pre-ordered the Galaxy Fold advising that there is no estimated shipping date for the device and that their order will be automatically canceled unless specifically requested not to.
The revelation comes from an email first spotted by Brandon Lee that advises orders will be automatically canceled after May 31. The stance confirms what was initially thought, that the Galaxy Fold won't be shipping this month.
I just received an email update on the Samsung Galaxy Fold. No update on the relaunch of the device, which isn't the most reassuring sign.
The most interesting thing to note is that you have to OPT-IN to keep your order or it will automatically cancel. Also, not a good sign pic.twitter.com/ZkOmlO0tFj

It would appear that while Samsung downplayed the issues with the Galaxy Fold with its initial statement, clearly receiving those failed units back to the factory revealed some large concerns that warranted the delay of the device. While disappointing, I don't think anyone could say they didn't see this coming.
