We've known for a while that 5G has been in the works, and this year was really the first year that the tech has started to find its way to consumers. Unfortunately, at the moment there still aren't that many 5G smartphones in the market, but Xiaomi has a plan to rectify that in 2020.
Speaking during the 6th World Internet Conference, Xiaomi's chairman and CEO, Lei Jun, revealed that the company will be releasing a bunch of 5G smartphones in 2020. Actually, that would be a mild way of putting it because according to the CEO, Xiaomi will be launching as many as ten 5G smartphones in 2020.
So far, the 5G smartphones released this year have mostly been flagship handsets. This is versus 4G smartphones in which we can find 4G in pretty much any phone across the price range, and that's the strategy that Xiaomi will be going for next year. As to how many phones actually find their way to the US market remains to be seen, but it could be good news for Xiaomi customers in other parts of the world who might not relish the idea of paying $1,000 for a 5G smartphone.
Other companies such as Apple are also expected to enter the 5G market, and with the Pixel 4 not sporting 5G, it might be a safe bet to think that Google could also be tossing their hat into the ring next year.
