The final Android Oreo build is rolling out to OnePlus 5 owners

Over the last few weeks, OnePlus has been testing Android Oreo for the OnePlus 5, but it seems that the beta program has finally wrapped up. Owners of the OnePlus 5 are now receiving the official build of Android Oreo through OxygenOS 5.0.

While the update brings the best of Android Oreo, OnePlus has also thrown in some extra goodies including a new camera application, a new UI for the Shelf feature of the Oxygen launcher, and more. The update is rolling out via OTA now, but for some reason, the Forum post from OnePlus has been removed, and there has been no official word from the company as to whether the update has been stopped.

As is the case with most of these big rollouts, a select "handful" of users will receive the update first, before the update makes its way to devices around the globe. This is to help ensure that there are no major bugs with the update and if there is something catastrophic on the horizon, a staggered rollout will allow OnePlus to jump on any issues before it becomes more widespread.

For those who want to check out the changelog, here's a look at everything that is new:

  • Updated to Android O (8.0)
  • Launcher
    • Optimizations for Shelf
    • Now you can upload your photo through Shot on OnePlus
  • Camera
    • New Camera UI design
    • Optimizations for photo quality
    • Added beauty effect for Portrait Mode
  • Gallery
    • Added "Places" tab for viewing photos on a map
  • Calculator
    • Added history feature
  • Clock
    • Added alarm calendar feature
  • System
    • Added Parallel Apps feature
    • New design for Quick Settings
    • New design for Lift up display
    • Added "Adaptive model" screen calibration
    • Optimizations for Wi-Fi
    • Optimizations for Battery Saver
    • Updated Android security patch to December

There are a lot of new features included with this update, making it one of the biggest to ever come to a OnePlus device. However, since this is a staggered rollout, there's a chance that you'll have to hang tight before being able to receive this update on your device specifically.

Let us know if you have received the update on your OnePlus 5, and if not, we'll be sure to update everyone if there happens to be a stoppage in the OTA rollout.
