Recently, Google has rolled out an update for its Search app on both iOS and Android where it now supports Dark mode. This means that whenever your phone's dark mode feature has been enabled, the app should follow suit and show a dark look to match it. This is a nifty update as it does make it easier on the eyes when you're viewing your phone in a low light setting.
To enable Dark mode for the Google Search app, there are two ways that users can go about it. The first method is pretty straightforward and automatic. If you're running iOS 13 or Android 10, the app will automatically switch to Dark mode when your operating system's Dark mode feature is enabled. That's how most apps with Dark mode support handle the feature.
Google on the other hand, wants to give users a bit more control where they can opt to manually enable or disable it if they prefer. Users will be able to go to the app's Settings and then opt to manually toggle on or off Dark mode. If Dark mode has been toggled on, it will remain permanently on.
This means that even if on an OS level Dark mode has been turned off, the app itself will continue to display in Dark mode. The opposite is true where if you disable the automatic switching, the app will continue to display its Light mode theme even when you enable Dark mode on an OS level.
The update for Dark mode is set to begin rolling out on Tuesday, 9AM PT and will continue to rollout throughout the week, so if you don't see the feature enabled for you yet, don't worry it should eventually find its way to you.
