White HTC U12 could feature matte glass on the back

We know HTC is planning a followup to last year's phenomenal HTC U11. Going by the codename "Imagine," details surrounding this rumored HTC U12 have been kept relatively under wraps. That was up until a few days when Android developer @LlabTooFeR listed off a few of the device's hardware specs. From the sound of things, it's your standard iterative release, packing slightly updated internals to keep up with the Samsungs and iPhones.

HTC Imagine (U12)

  • CPU SD845
  • Display 5.99 QHD+
  • RAM up to 6GB
  • ROM up to 256GB
  • Dual Main Camera 12mp + 16mp (Sony IMX3xx)
  • Front Camera 8mp
  • Battery 3420mah
  • IP68
  • HTC Face Unlock
  • Edge Sense 2.0
  • Android 8.0 + Sense 10
  • Full treble support and A/B (Seamless) Updates
  • Single and Dual SIM version

When it comes to the actual design of the phone, so far there hasn't been any solid leaks (outside of the device covered in black tape). Still, we're betting the phone wont change drastically from the design language found on the HTC U11 and U11+. A metal frame slapped between two panes of glass is almost certain — as we're seeing from just about every other OEM these days — but HTC may deviate slightly from their trademark mirror-like finish, aka the U11's "Liquid Surface" design.

According to HTC Source, the HTC U12 could feature a unique white glass color option. Thoughts of the Samsung Galaxy S6 or iPhone X immediately come to mind, but let me stop you right there. Sources indicate HTC could change things up by offering a matte white glass, something we've yet to find on any smartphone to date.

As someone who isn't a big fan of high gloss finishes, this sounds like the perfect marriage between glass and the matte aluminum I've grown accustomed to all these years. What do you think?
