2019 was supposed to be the year in which we expected that foldable phones would be a hot topic. Unfortunately, a series of delays and quality issues resulted in the foldable phone concept receiving a somewhat lukewarm reception. That has not dissuaded some companies from trying, such as TCL.
At CES 2020, the company has taken the wraps off a foldable phone concept. Unfortunately, the company did not provide much details about the phone save for some images, but basically it looks like the company will be adopting the smartphone-tablet hybrid, where it can fold into a phone and unfold into a tablet.
From what we can see, the phone is also expected to pack a quad-camera setup on the back, but that's pretty much the extent of what we know. It is unclear if TCL has plans to actually create this phone and make it a reality, or if it is just something that they are toying with.
As it stands, Samsung is pretty much the only mainstream smartphone maker with an actual foldable phone in the market. Huawei's Mate X has yet to be released and we're not sure when they are planning to, so it will be interesting to see if TCL is willing to put their money where their mouth is and make this phone a reality.
Until then, we'll just have to wait, but in the meantime, what do you think about TCL's foldable concept?
