Chromebooks these days come in a lot of shapes and sizes. While Lenovo has traditionally offered budget-friendly options, mainly built for the education segments, the company is showing off the new 2-in-1 Lenovo IdeaPad Duet Chromebook at CES which uses the less popular tablet form factor with a detachable keyboard and stand.
Now, we've seen this combination before with Google attempting it with the Pixel Slate in 2018, but Lenovo is keeping the IdeaPad Duet as a budget-friendly option with a $279.99. The kicker here is that the keyboard and case which doubles as a stand are also included in the price.
The tablet's main attraction is its 10.1-inch (1920×1200) IPS Full HD display which offers up to 400 nits of brightness and 70 percent color gamut, sporting narrow bezels on all sides which make it feel a lot smaller than other 10-inch tablets that are on the market.
The keyboard which attached to the bottom of the tablet via pogo pins and magnets does feel a bit cramped. That being said, typing on it is still quite comfortable and the whole thing folds up quick nicely to be stored away in a purse or computer bag.
Since this is a full-featured Chromebook, the IdeaPad Duet comes with all the features you get on other devices. It has built-in Google Assistant support, access to the play store and of course a full version of the chrome browser. While the hardware this tablet runs on is not nearly as powerful as what the PixelSlate was using, it still feels quite responsive and could actually make a great alternative to an Android tablet.
Lenovo plans to bring the IdeaPad Duet to market starting in May of this year. It'll be interesting to see how this category of Chromebooks continues to evolve in 2020 with more and more manufacturers using the Chrome OS platform for tablets rather than Android.
