Latest Samsung Galaxy Z Flip rumor leaves us disappointed

As we inch our way closer to Samsung's February 11th Unpacked event, rumors surrounding the company's second foldable smartphone have become a lot more frequent. While there's still a lot we don't know about the clamshell-style foldable phone, every new leaked detail leaves us with a bit more disappointment.

The latest Samsung Galaxy Z Flip rumor claims that the phone will use a 12MP camera for its main sensor rather than the 108MP sensor Samsung is expected to use on the upcoming Galaxy S20 lineup. This new detail comes to use courtesy of Ishan Agarwal who also confirms previously rumored specifications which include a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED Display, 10MP front-facing camera, 256GB of storage, 3300mAh or 3500mAh battery, black and purple color options and Samsung's One UI 2.1 software build.

Samsung Galaxy S20 rumor roundup: taking things to the next level

Couple the new detail with previously rumored specs and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip simply looks to be a foldable rehash of last year's Galaxy S10.

According to XDA's @MaxWinebach, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, the same chip Samsung used in its 2019 flagship smartphone.

Now, we've known for a while that Samsung's goal with the Galaxy Z Flip was to reduce the price of the phone as much as possible to make it as appealing as possible to mainstream consumers. By using many of the same components it used in 2019, Samsung will be able to keep its components costs down significantly.

By skipping the SD865 from Qualcomm, Samsung will also be able to forego the required 5G modem that Samsung is forcing manufacturers to purchase with its latest flagship chip. And by sticking with a standard 12MP sensor over the 108MP one Samsung and Xiaomi co-developed will help keep the cost of the phone below that of last year's Galaxy Fold. The Z Flip's 6.7-inch foldable AMOLED panel will likely be the most expensive component, but Samsung should be able to get the final price of the phone to $1600 which is in line with the price of the Motorola RAZR.
