Along with the new Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro smartphones, Huawei has unveiled a new memory card format – the Nano Memory Card or NM Card. The new NM Card is smaller than a microSD card and is the same size and shape as a nanoSIM card. The company has not released many details about the NM Card, but we're compiled everything we know about it below.
NM Card size
The new NM Card is the same size as a nano SIM card, making it 45% smaller than a microSD card. Dual SIM card slot on the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro which can support the new standard, giving the users the option of using a second SIM card or a NM card for storage.
NM card capacity
Huawei didn't go into detail regarding the capacity of the new NM Card, but it announced that the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 will support 256GB NM Cards. We will assume that Huawei will give consumers the option to purchase 64GB, 128GB and 256GB NM Cards, but they have not made any official announcements yet.
NM card standard/compatibility
Huawei has not released any specific regarding the NM Card standard. The assumption is that it is simply a new shape for a microSD card. This would give it a theoretical maximum capacity of 2TB and should allow it to be used in other devices with an adaptor.
As of now, there's no indication that the NM Card will be used by other smartphone manufacturers or be added as an official variant of the SD card format.
NM Card Pricing and Availability
Huawei has yet to disclose how much its new NM Cards will cost or where you'll be able to buy them. The cards will likely show up at electronics retailers and service provider shops that sell the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro.
