LG V50 to launch in Korea this month, US release could be shortly after

At MWC 2019, LG announced the LG V50 ThinQ. This would be LG's first 5G smartphone and there is without a doubt a lot of pressure on the company, especially with Samsung also having launched their own 5G smartphone. The handset was initially pegged for a launch in April but was later delayed, and now it looks like we have a launch date to look forward to.

LG has confirmed that the LG V50 is set to launch on the 10th of May, but we should point out that the launch of the handset is for the South Korean market. LG has yet to confirm when the phone will be released in the US, but the launch in South Korea does seem to suggest that a US launch might not be too far behind.

It was also previously reported that the handset would be launched on both Sprint and Verizon where it might be coming in the summer of 2019, but we'll have to wait for LG to confirm the dates. For those who are learning about the LG V50 for the first time, here's a quick recap on what the phone will be packing in terms of features.

As expected of a flagship, the LG V50 will be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset. LG had also boasted that the phone will come with a new cooling system, and it will also pack a 6.4-inch QHD+ OLED FullVision Display along with DTS:X audio technology and a triple camera setup on the back.

LG will also be selling an optional accessory that turns the handset into a pseudo foldable phone with a secondary display. There is no word on pricing for now.

Cover of Harper’s Bazaar India was shot with the OnePlus 7 Pro

When one thinks of magazine shoots, you might think of high-end professional studio equipment such as DSLR cameras. That is more or less the industry standard, but it appears that in a bid to promote their upcoming smartphone, OnePlus has lent their OnePlus 7 Pro to the folks at Harper's Bazaar India which was then used to shoot the cover of the latest issue of the magazine.

In an issue that advocates for body positivity, Harper's Bazaar India tweeted that the photos taken were not filtered and were not digitally altered, suggesting that what we see could be straight out of camera. If that is the case, then color us impressed because had it not been mentioned, we would have assumed it was taken with a professional-grade camera.

If anything, this serves to highlight how much more capable our smartphone cameras are these days, where with the use of software and clever AI, it can replicate certain features that would have otherwise required a high-end DSLR and an expensive lens to go with it. In the photo shared by the magazine of actor Jameela Jamil, the colors are bright and vivid and there is also a nice separation between the background and foreground

Best Buy jumps the gun and puts Pixel 3a XL onto store shelves

The Google Pixel 3a and 3a XL have been leaked numerous times, with everything from renders to even price info. None of it is concrete, and nothing will be until the launch date of May 7, but we likely know everything there is to know about the budget Pixel devices.

However, a Best Buy in Springfield, Ohio has screwed up and given us a look at the retail packaging. The store has left a few Pixel 3a XL units on a shelf in plain view (behind some glass so we couldn't get a better look at it). Obviously they were supposed to be kept out of sight until they were announced, but it does confirm that the official release should be right after the announcement.

Google I/O is coming up and we're likely going to see the devices launch then, and there's plenty to be excited about. However, skepticism about the budget devices is understandable, and with Pixel 3 sales being lower than expected, the new 3a may not do so well either. We'll have to wait and find out.

This is the OnePlus 7 Pro

OnePlus has been making full use of its marketing budget with the upcoming OnePlus 7 Pro with a number of features either revealed by the company itself or leaked out. Now, we have our closest look yet at the OnePlus 7 Pro with pictures of the device in all its glory showing off the zero-bezel design.

The leaks come courtesy of Ishan Agarwal, who has been very vocal (and accurate) with a number of leaks over the last few months. The image below shows the OnePlus 7 Pro in the Nebula Blue color and also shows the vertical camera array.

OnePlus has already shared images teasing the lens setup in the OnePlus 7 Pro and having already confirmed a 48-megapixel primary sensor with a telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, the third camera is likely a wide-angle lens. As far as button placement goes, the volume and power button remains in the same place as last year.

The biggest talking point of the OnePlus 7 Pro is the new display where the displays have been pushed back and the notch clearly removed. This resigns the OnePlus 7 Pro to a popup camera mechanism that will popup the front-facing camera on demand. At QHD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate, the display is gearing up to be absolutely stunning and a stand out feature of the OnePlus 7 Pro.

The device will also be available in a Mirror Grey finish and will be unveiled on May 14. The OnePlus 7 Pro will cost €749/$749, cementing OnePlus firmly in the premium device bracket.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 could have curves for dayz

Samsung will launch the Galaxy Note 10 around August this year and we're expecting there to also be a Note 10 Pro, as well as an accompanying 5G model of each. While the Note series typically follows a similar design inspiration from the Galaxy S device launched earlier in the year, Samsung could be looking to mix things up with the Note 10 this year according to a new leak.

The Galaxy S10 introduced a brand new design that saw the Infinity-O display reduce the bezels of the device and introduce a hole-punch in the top right of the device to house the front-facing camera. The design has been met with mixed reviews but is the company's answer to the notch. Samsung could be looking to change the design even further this year with the Note 10.

According to the tweet above, which comes from a source that has a good track history of being familiar with Samsung's movements, the Note 10 could take the curved design seen on the S10 that has been a signature of the Galaxy flagships for years a step further and feature even more prominent curvature.

The curved edge of the display was first introduced with the Galaxy Edge and has since been made the standard, albeit with a reduced curve. If the tweet is to be believed, the Note 10 could be going back to its roots and be the curviest display we've seen yet.
